EP Review: Closest Disco Queen – Sexy Audio Deviance for Punk Bums (Division Records)
This three track EP from the two-piece band, Closet Disco Queen is all about a 70’s rock swagger. Sexy Audio Deviance for Punk Bums was released on April 7th 2017 via Division Records.
Sexy Audio Deviance for Punk Bums has plenty of sexy & groovy riffs dressed up in an experimental sound. It encapsulates an era perfectly within its beats & melodies, part old-school rock & part progressive, it’s a pummelling guitar/drums only approach.
Ninjaune’s upbeat tempo is a fine introduction with its drug-hazed, fuzzy sounding riffs but El Moustachito really gets things going. The up-tempo riffing is fantastic to hear, a dark chug at times, some light strumming…it’s a banger of a track & as an introduction to the band (they do have a self-titled debut already) it really excites.
This great EP comes to a close with the western-like guitar-strumming of Délicieux. A light drum beat that increases in volume leads the strumming into some faster, hook-laden riffing. It’s disjointed style really pushing the boundaries of what Closet Disco Queen have produced so far.
It’s a great ending to a very short EP that leaves you wanting more, much more. Far more interesting then it may first appear, Sexy Audio Deviance for Punk Bums is one of the best EP releases of the year.
