EP Review: Catalysis – Innova (Self Released)
Dundee, Scotland based metal band Catalysis are back with a brand-new EP called ‘Innova’. This EP follows on from 3 studio EPs; ‘Into the Unknown’ (2017), ‘Catalysis’ (2018) and Relicta (2021), as well as their debut full-length album ‘Connection Lost’ (2020). It will be released on July 2nd, 2022.
Starting off hot, Catalysis arrive on this EP with some stompy groove and death infused metal in the form of the thrilling Before the Fall. An immediate showcase of what this band are good at, it’s got a meaty sound that makes you gnash your teeth through sheer head-banging joy.
That’s just the start and things get faster and heavier with Shadow Parasite, Catalysis digging deeper into their death metal playbook.
Before Arise, Alive delivers a riff showcase and a smash-mouth amount of growl in the vocals, and Echo Chamber combines the stompy groove that makes Catalysis such a kick-ass band with some cool sounding melodic guitar parts.
They’ve nailed it again with Innova and the cherry on top is the fierce pit-creating finale of Death Grip. One more punchy and pounding blast of heaviness that compels an excessive amount of head-banging out of the listener.
