EP Review: Break Out Day – Echoes of the Past (Self Released)
Pop punk band, Break Out Day’s new EP ‘Echoes of the Past’ was released on March 30th 2018. Influenced by artists such as Blink-182, All Time Low, Fall Out Boy, Simple Plan and Angels & Airwaves, Echoes of the Past is four tracks of melodic rock and feel-good pop-punk. Even if the lyrics are weighted to a darker tone.
The Party’s Over gets the…well…it gets the party started. A simple bouncy tune that has some real kick to the drums and a frantic chorus that shows off a bit more heaviness then you might expect from a pop-punk band. Break Out Day know their way around a riff or two and it sets up things nicely even if the vocals are pretty familiar sounding.
Deleted Imagery doesn’t just continue the good work, it betters it with a more rhythmic and slower beat before One More Night blends sorrowful sounding verses with faster and rockier choruses. The latter of the two is the weakest of the bunch though as it’s over 4 minutes long and seems to run out of ideas in half that time.
That’s the EP as the 4th track is an acoustic version of the band’s earlier release, Too Bad You’re Lying. It’s a good addition though as the strumming guitar tune and vocals combine to put a little smile on the face.
