EP Review: Bréag Naofa – Cearo (Self-Released)
The vinyl version of Bréag Naofa’s latest EP, Cearo will be released on September 1st 2017. The EP is just two tracks long combining blackness & sludge with a post-metal vibe.
Opening song, The Morning Of…. subtle strumming & melody builds for a couple of minutes creating a deliciously haunting sound. It increases in tempo while retaining the original tune before a stunning change in direction wakes everything up.
A triple-guitar assault, Cearo is an EP that excels showcasing its riffs. It’s not until past the half-way mark that any vocals show up & even then they sit behind the music with a deep, throaty growl.
The second track, Phosphorus takes a faster & harder approach from the start. Really laying on the black metal vibe strongly, unsurprisingly it evolves into a different but still familiar beast as the track goes on. Incredibly hard-hitting, there is some real meat to the bones of Cearo.
It leaves you wanting more, much more.
