EP Review: Blight Town – It Lives… (Self Released)
It Lives… is the new EP from UK alternative outfit Blight Town. It is set for release on the 18th of November and will feature recent single ‘Al Gore Rhythm’ and their previous single ‘Swerve’.
Blight Town offer up an interesting amalgamation of alt-rock, technical proficiency, and melodic catchiness across their four-track EP. Expressive, complex, and accessible music. The captivating qualities of the release are present from the start with the eccentric and angler sound of the pop-rock infused Hawaii Six-O.
Think you know Blight Town now? Think again as All Gore Rhythm takes things in a punkier and post-hardcore direction. The group hammering hard, expelling a lot of energy, and delivering an immense experience.
There’s a bit more melodrama to the anthemic Feel Better. The vocals are passionate and soar but, goodness, the sounds coming from the guitars are so clever and unexpected for this style of music. It’s such a major selling point of this band.
All good things must come to an end though and that amalgamation of musical genres and styles is perfectly portrayed in the finale of Swerve. Blight Town’s abilities to make it all work so well, speaks for itself on this release. A marvellous example of heartfelt, memorable and interesting alternative music.
