EP Review: Black Label Society – Glorious Christmas Songs That Will Make Your Black Label Heart Feel Good (Black Label Recordings)
Three instrumental songs long, Glorious Christmas Songs That Will Make Your Black Label Heart Feel Good is a Christmas EP from Black Label Society.
It’s no surprise that this three track EP is all about showing off the prolific guitar style of Zakk Wylde. The rest of the band don’t really get a look in but does it embody Christmas? Kind of…
I’ll Be Home for Christmas starts things off in a familiar Christmassy way but ends up just becoming a showcase of guitar talent. Plenty of riffing & plenty of soloing, to the point of where the original I’ll be Home for Christmas tune all but disappears.
O Little Town of Bethlehem is no better. Wylde is a talent on the guitar, he really is, but this is an EP that seems so self-serving to the point of irritation. The bluesy rock style is so Black Label Society so fans may get a kick out of it anyway.
The final track, It’s a Wonderful World, is the highlight because it utilises other instruments resulting in a less jarring sound. A peaceful track that reflects the spirit of Christmas well. Less about Zakk Wylde soloing the hell out of everything & more about the actual melody of the song.
