EP Review: Between the Killings – The Killing Quartet Vol. 2: Omnipotence (Comatose Music)

The story continues, as Indiana’s Between the Killings return to their voyage through the mind of a killer and unveil ‘The Killing Quartet Vol. 2: Omnipotence’. Comatose Music will let loose this beast on June 7th, 2024.

The Killing Quartet Vol. 1: Reflection of Murder left an indelible mark on the psyche, and many may not have even fully recovered from that today. Featuring a cacophony of horrifying and heavy noise, Between the Killings embodied the mindset of violence, suffering and pain on that EP.

The result was a release that slammed hard enough to break bones and crush spirits. Something that The Killing Quartet Vol. 2: Omnipotence also does with its five beastly and vicious offerings. This is death metal, but death metal that is battered, bloodied, and brutalised by a band with a lust for gore.

It’s also death metal with a technical twist, and that really shines on certain tracks. Sure, the overall vibe of this EP is wholly based in violence and horror, but that doesn’t mean Between the Killings don’t have flair. It’s what gives them their edge and ensures this EP has a fair bit more oomph than your average example of brutal death metal.

Still, if you want an EP that can f**k you up in short and measured fashion, this one will deliver. You might be a bit twisted, but so are Between the Killings, so it’s a match made in hell.
