EP Review: Baited – Cutting Teeth (Self Released)

Baited is a hardcore metal band formed in 2022 hailing from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Fuelled by a shared love for the relentless energy of punk rock, they thrive in mosh pits and dive bars alike, tipping bartenders and sending shoes across the bar.

They will release their second EP ‘Cutting Teeth’ on July 14th, 2023.

Who doesn’t love a bit of chaotic and raw heaviness to get hot and sweaty to? This is the only way to describe Baited, with massive emphasis on the raw. Cutting Teeth features six tracks of hardcore-infused heaviness that demands manic pits filled with blood, sweat, and tears.

With breakdowns liable to bust some bones, riffs sharp enough to draw blood, and vocals that spit up all manner of bile, Baited are not a band to play to the grandparents. Unless they have a penchant for hostility and violence in musical form.

Yet, for all their hardcore metal barbarity, something is just a bit off with the production and mix. Notable when they’re really going for it and it can be a bit distracting. It’s not an aspect we normally bother talking about, but it’s extremely hard to ignore here. It’s a shame too as the focus should be on what Baited are doing so right. Which is delivering a huge amount of energy, intensity, and passion.

Thankfully, it’s not bad enough to ruin the EP and most will likely come away feeling like they’ve been in a battle to survive with Baited.
