EP Review: ATLVS – The Wound, The Blade (Self Released)

Melbourne, Australia based metalcore band, ATLVS are back with a brand-new EP called ‘The Wound, The Blade’ on July 15th, 2022.

Holy hell, have ATLVS returned with a bloody great big bang. Arguably dropping one of their most intensely heavy and exciting tracks ever with the opener Kodokushi. A track that is epitome of stompy aggression and drops a breakdown within the first minute. Yet this is ATLVS so the fact that this track gets cleaner, more melodic and daringly catchy is not that surprising. Still, what an absolute belter of a track this is.

Bar set, ATLVS have no problem reaching it with the smash-mouth and blistering brashness of Nazareth. A track that makes you feel tense as the heaviness has such an inherent danger to it.

Guess what? Comethazine is a beast also but more of a circle-pit inducing beast. Whereas Broken Bonds creeps up with malicious intent, unleashing a barrage of heavy punches and kicks. Before Synthetic Heaven draws some emotion out with some incredible melodies, wrapped around ATLVS’ impressive heavy power. A track that is nudging the bar set by Kodokushi.

Over far too quickly, the last track is Cold Blood. Like everything heard so far, it is part unfiltered aggression, part poignant prettiness and filled with eye-watering passion. Another absolute rager on an EP filled with them.

It’s important to say that any complaint about length when it comes to a release like this is purely based on the fact that the music is so good, you naturally want more. The creativity ATLVS are showcasing is unbelievable and the end result is simply outstanding.
