EP Review: Anti-Clone – Inhuman (Prime Collective)
The UK-based industrial nu-metal band Anti-Clone, influenced by iconic acts such as Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, and 3TEETH, are gearing up for the release of their upcoming EP, ‘Inhuman’, set to release on April 4th, 2025, via Prime Collective.
Hugely anticipated, especially as listeners have had ample time to get their ears around the singles ‘God Nothing’, ‘Inhuman’ and ‘SICKSICKSICK’, this feels like the culmination of years of work for Anti-Clone. Not this EP and its songs specifically, but rather the work that has gone into finding out who they are and defining their sound. A sound that is equally retro and modern, especially from an industrial standpoint.
Anti-Clone wear their influences on their sleeves, and at times, the familiarity with certain big name artists is startling. However, the more time spent in the company of this EP, the more it showcases Anti-Clone’s uniqueness. In particular, their meshing of genres, their dark depth, and their excitable intensity. Evident on the anthemic opener that is Inhuman and abrasive oddity that is God Nothing and its big chorus.
You can learn a lot about the current direction of Anti-Clone from these two tracks, but not everything. That’s because a track like Repent really pushes the electronica-focused creative side of the band in very heated direction. This is such a sleazy sounding track in places, but it’s also so lively throughout.
The latter part of the EP certainly doesn’t disappoint either. Not when a track like SICKSICKSICK burns with so much virulent power. One of the more ‘dramatic’ tracks on the EP, which is saying something when you consider the dramatics that are inherent within Anti-Clone’s sound. That, and their ability to twist the mind into knots with an infectious combo of retro nu-metal and modern industrial groove, ala Pray for Me. Seriously cool stuff.
