EP Review: Anti-Clone – Human (Self Released)

Returning after a four-year hiatus with a brand-new look, Anti-Clone are back with their new EP ‘Human’. Written with cataclysmic recent world events in mind, ‘Human’ is a step into the mindset of four people trying to contend with everyday life while the world appeared to be burning around them.

Human will be released on the 16th of September 2022.

Let’s give Anti-Clone a big welcome back, the nu-metal/industrial giants have evolved during their hiatus and the new beast that emerges is both familiar and refreshing. The former, because the anthemic nu-metal and massive industrial beats are still present. The latter, because Anti-Clone have developed their sound to include more melody. With the end result being wholly infectious.

Look no further than the title track, the opener on this EP, as Anti-Clone immediately show just much appeal their sound has now. The industrial groove, the darker tone, the massive chorus… it’s a banger start.

The bangers keep coming though as Punish Me also has an immense chorus. Where Anti-Clone combine harsh heaviness with melody to great results. End of the World then shows a level of unexpected melodrama that fits the tone of the EP perfectly. A track that sees Anti-Clone lean into a more ‘alternative’ metal style but with their usual aptitude for anthems.

The EP (sort of) closing with Spiteful, an apt name as it sees Anti-Clone spiting fire and fury as they treat us to a blistering showcase of heavy groove and an infectious chorus. Although there’s a little more bang for your buck with the bonus track of Army of One. Available on CD versions of the EP only, it’s a mix of slower, ominous industrial parts and barely contained heavy rage. It’s another great track making the CD version of the EP, a must buy.

Based off the quality of the tracks on this EP, the future is looking very bright for Anti-Clone. Welcome back, we’ve missed you.
