EP Review: Anderwelt – Transanimalism (Electric Fire Records)
Anderwelt, the Austrian post-metal band, will release their brand-new EP, ‘Transanimalism’, on October 18th, 2024, via Electric Fire Records.
Transhumanism is a posthuman movement that seeks to use technology to extend human life, separating the mind from the body, and enhancing both physical and intellectual capabilities. Transanimalism, the first of the two tracks on this EP, explores what might happen if transhumanist technology were accidentally discovered and used by animals in a post-apocalyptic world.
Blending science fiction with reality, adding layers of the fantastical, and infusing a certain amount of darkness into things, this first track is a staggering piece of music that feels and sounds epic. From the emotive melodies that introduce it. To the morose symphonic touches and explosiveness of the heavier post side. To the burgeoning grandeur and thick vein of misery that runs through the entire thing. It’s a spectacular listen that showcases deep imagination and strong artistic abilities, especially as the sense of a dangerous dystopian future is notable throughout.
The second track of the EP is a+ and features Nana Falkner. Showcasing even more drama, this second track is a more melodic offering, laying the desolation on thickly, but creating an intense array of feeling. It’s the shorter of the two, but doesn’t lack impact.
An incredibly talented band, Anderwelt do more in 15-minutes to create vibrant imagery in the mind, than many do in double that time. This is an outstanding listen.
