EP Review: À TERRE – NOTRE CIEL NOIR (Self Released)
À TERRE hail from the southwest of France and can best be summed up as a post-black metal band. The soundtrack of catharsis screamed in French. They released their EP ‘NOTRE CIEL NOIR’ back in January of 2021.
It’s a bleak and cold existence that À TERRE portray on this EP. Where the devastating heaviness of their black metal side clashes inordinately with heavy metal riffs and darkened post-melodies. It’s quite a clamour but the real selling point of this EP and the band overall is their decision to sing in their native language. It really gives their style of heavy and raw post, a unique flavour.
An almost desperate and strained style of vocals, howling over vicious heaviness. Where in an instant, an assault of melancholic melody arrives to unbalance everything. It’s a trio of impactful tracks that leave you wanting more music from À TERRE which is always a good sign.
