EP Review: A Crime Called… – Primal Echoes (Self Released)

Alt-rock act A Crime Called… have will release their brand-new EP, ‘Primal Echoes’, on December 15th, 2023.

Offering some insight into the release, frontman Andrea Verdi says:

It is the travel diary of the last two years, facts of forced start and stop, due by a period of restrictions, pandemics, wars… The mission remains the same: telling with music, driven by the fire of passion, recalled by the charm of instruments and songs, awakened once again by that primordial echo that has always pushed us to overcome our limits.

Certainly not short-changing listeners with this EP, as it features eight tracks, A Crime Called… come out swinging with a big hitter called On These Days. The passion that comes through from their strong alt-rock sound is rich and flavourful here. Passion that is such a major part of the overall appeal of Primal Echoes.

Although, their experimentation with a familiar anthemic alt-rock sound that blends the old and modern shouldn’t be ignored. Resulting in enjoyable first-half listens like Back and Forth, Miracle, and Sleep Walk, the latter of which is extremely dramatic. Each track has merit, each track has its own distinct aroma, and each track offers up a ton of heart and soul.

Something that continues into the second half of the EP, as Down the Lines picks up the energy for a powerful melodic singalong. Then Scratched showcases a relaxed vibe and emphatic chorus. Before Tears(R)Blind and Circles end the EP with a monumental alternative bang from both a vigorous and moody standpoint. If you’ve been all in up to this point, you won’t be changing your mind based off these last two bouts of relatable passion.
