Christmas Horror Short Review: The FRIGHT Before Christmas (2023)

From the very talented creator, Jeff Scott, comes the delightful festive horror short that is The FRIGHT Before Christmas.

It stars Lori as Mrs. Hawkins, who is enjoying a Christmas evening in making Christmas cookies. The lights, the warmth, the music, it’s all very festive, except her cookies are a little… unusual and she’s not happy that her frosting isn’t ‘red enough’.

She needs something to make it darker, which is unfortunate timing for Rachel (Carol Coal) to turn up at her door singing Christmas carols.

No thanks, I’m sure you’re not very good.

The delivery of that line alone makes this short a must see. Lori is hilarious and delivers the cheesy dialogue with gusto. Though she’s far from alone as the effort put in to make this special, is notable. It’s silly, it’s funny, and it’s horrifying. Once again, Jeff Scott shows that low budgets are no barrier to being creative and fun. When you’ve got the talent to realise your vision, it’s going to happen, and this is another quality festive short.
