There are a lot of bands on the bill, and some you may not be that familiar with, which is where we come in. As is our yearly custom, we will be running features on many of the bands playing, aiming to give you some insight into who they are, what they do, and why they are a must see at the festival.

Sathamel

Yorkshire based blackened death metal band Sathamel first emerged from the dark pit back in 2013, but it was with the release of their self-titled EP in 2015 that really put them on the metal map. Well, that and their much-lauded live performances, that took the country by storm and kept the band busy for a while. Leading to the release of their debut full-length album, ‘Horror Vacui’ in 2019.

Praised roundly by fans and critics alike, ‘Horror Vacui’ was a major step forward for Sathamel and they had transformed into an unstoppable force.

Alas, the years that followed that release, resulted in Sathamel becoming dormant, until 2023, when they remerged. With a fresh line-up (two founding members remained and were joined by three new members) and a new-found hunger, they picked up where they left off. Releasing new singles; ‘Take the Rot’, ‘Perennial Flock’, and most recently, ‘Ad Nauseam’ and reconfirming their talents in the live environment.

With a new EP due for release too, it’s fair to say that to simply state that Sathamel are back is to understate the size of the crater they have created since re-emerging in 2023. It also speaks volumes about the talent with in this band that they earned their place at Bloodstock via application.

Clearly someone at BOA HQ was impressed and for good reason as Sathamel’s New Blood set on the Sunday of the festival promises to be an unforgettable one. Don’t take our word for it though. We spoke to Sathamel about what it means to play Bloodstock 2024, what the festival means overall, and what attendees can expect from their show.

Bloodstock Festival is an event that many of us in this band have attended annually; and is always a highlight of the UK summer for the patrons, many returning, year on year. There is a great sense of community within those grounds. If anyone has an involvement in the UK metal scene at all, whether a musician, fan, press etc. It seems that all roads lead to Bloodstock, in one way or another.

To play at Bloodstock is a great honour for us – having the chance to perform on the New Blood stage and showcase our art feels like a rite of passage. We have ourselves seen many UK (and beyond) acts who have walked this stage to only go from strength to strength, and we relish this opportunity. It is a “bucket list” moment to play an open-air festival and performing at the UK’s largest is a fine place to start!

In terms of what to expect – we have, after a period of dormancy, released a number of singles this last year. “Take the Rot”, “Perennial Flock” and “Ad Nauseam” – we have returned to the stage with renewed vigour and focus; this intensity will translate across our entire set.
