There are a lot of bands on the bill, and some you may not be that familiar with, which is where we come in. As is our yearly custom, we will be running features on many of the bands playing, aiming to give you some insight into who they are, what they do, and why they are a must see at the festival.
Hammer
Hammer, a five-piece extreme metal band (who just so happen to have tons of groove) hail from Edinburgh in Scotland. Since dropping their self-titled debut album in 2020, they’ve worked hard to solidify their name in the Scottish scene, something that helped them emerge as victors of Scotland’s 2024 Metal to the Masses.
It’s been an intense year for the band too. As well as playing some big shows alongside grindcore legends Brujeria and rising experimental heavy hitters Meth, Hammer found time to release not one, but two new singles this year and introduce fans to new vocalist Jim Andrews. Making his debut on ‘From Beyond’ and solidifying their aggressive sound with ‘Accelerator’. This latest track bringing all things Hammer to the table: razor sharp riffs, roaring bass, thundering drums and raw brutal vocals.
A live favourite for both the audience and the group, this track is a love letter from the band to all things metal. Listeners can expect to hear a variety of the band’s influences on this track, from classic, extreme and death metal.
The future is looking very bright for Hammer, especially as, following the release of ‘Accelerator’ and the festival appearance, they are planning on hitting the studio to release a larger collection of their new material.
Before that though, catch Hammer on the New Blood stage on the Friday of the festival and be prepared to have your head smashed in (in a fun and groovy way). Don’t take our word for it though. We spoke to Hammer about what it means to play Bloodstock 2024, what the festival means overall, and what attendees can expect from their show.
For each one of us, playing the festival is a huge deal. Working our way towards this opportunity has certainly pushed us to take what we do to the next level is certainly a milestone in the band’s career so far. We also want to make sure that playing Bloodstock isn’t the be all and end all, ensuring that we’re keeping up the moment as all go on this awesome journey together.
Bloodstock is an incredible festival in so many ways. It regularly attracts and hosts some of the best acts in modern heavy music along with some classic acts that everyone loves to see. The team there have managed to do this year upon year without sacrificing the friendly environment that the festival is known for, it really is a special place to be. This paired with the dedication to supporting grassroots music really does make this festival stand out, it is a fantastic place to spend time listening to music, catching up with old friends and making new ones.
We love putting on a show, and look to bring our aggressive and chaotic music to life on stage. We’re all massive fans of over the top, practical effects laden 80’s horror/sci-fi so we will do our best to inspire the kind of gut feeling you get when seeing someone’s head explode when you just want to punch the air and declare DAMN THAT WAS COOL!
