Winners of the Bristol Metal 2 the Masses this year, Moon Reaper are a five-piece blackened doom metal band who have strived for excellence both on record and in the live environment since their 2018 inception.

Hurt by the pandemic, like so many others, they released their debut single ‘Torture Chamber’ in 2019, before following up that slab of horrendous noise with another called ‘Spiralism’ in 2020. This track would be part of their much-anticipated debut EP ‘Descent’ in 2021. A five-track blast of brutalising heaviness, enigmatic melody, and moody atmosphere.

Finally let out to bring their otherworldly heaviness to the masses, Moon Reaper have spent time refining their sound and delivering shouted-about live performances across the country. It seemed a given, even with the strength in the Bristol scene, that they could win this year’s Metal 2 the Masses. Now, they have booked their ticket to Bloodstock and the New Blood stage is going to get an immense injection of blackened doom on the Friday of the festival.

Let the apocalypse commence…

Moon Reaper are the harbingers of our doom. Don’t take out word for it though, we spoke to them about what it means to play the festival, what Bloodstock means to them, and what attendees can expect from their show. They had this to say:

For Moon Reaper, playing Bloodstock Open Air is the monolith of a show we’ve been waiting for. A break in the clouds for a band that’s been grinding for 5 years. To play Bloodstock is comparable to parading over demons in hell.

Bloodstock for most of us, means the centre of our culture, the fire in our veins. It is the pinnacle of the metal community in the UK. Many of us have been year after year, in a way it is like a home away from home.

Anyone watching Moon Reaper at Bloodstock will experience the wrath of the apocalypse. The sound of a thousand dying stars. The pounding doom of our drums, the vicious blackened guitar riffs, crushing basslines and screams of epic proportions. Prepare your soul for annihilation.
