The Thursday of the festival is going to feel a lot colder when Frozen Soul take to the stage as one of the five bands featured on the opening night of Bloodstock.

Hailing from Texas, USA, Frozen Soul will be dropping their icy tundra upon Bloodstock this year as part of their mammoth European Summer Freeze tour. Since their full arrival in 2018, the five-piece have been working to cover the planet in a sheen of deadly ice. Their rise to death metal prominence hasn’t been at a glacial pace though, instead it has been speedy and powerful destruction from day one.

A raft of demos, splits, and singles sounded the warning signs that something game-changing was on the horizon. Before the full force of Frozen Soul’s life-stealing heavy sound arrived with the debut album, Crypt of Ice.

An album that reviewed in 2021 and summed up as:

Being your own frozen grave that you’re digging here. This Crypt of Ice has become your tomb.

It being the COVID times, the world frozen by something other than ice, meant Frozen Soul couldn’t quite capitalise on that release. Even if it made everyone shiver with delight. Frozen Soul didn’t waste time though, and a few months ago, they came back like a howling storm with their second album, Glacial Domination.

An apt title, as it found the band sounding more dangerous, demented, and devastating. We reviewed it, and summed it up as being:

More than just a cold chill that makes you shiver; this is the howling wind and icy tendrils that suck the life out of you. Frozen Soul are back, and more intense than ever. Death metal, sure, but death metal given an injection of ice. Horrible, harsh, and hellacious, across ten tracks and an intermission, Frozen Soul cause unmitigated destruction.

Frozen Soul might bring frigid hell to your ears, but their unmitigated death metal sound will warm the soul. We’re lucky to get them stopping at Bloodstock as part of this European tour and they are the band to see on the Thursday of the festival. Don’t take our word for it though, we spoke to them about what it means to play the festival, what Bloodstock means to them, and what attendees can expect from their show. They had this to say:

Being from Texas it’s not unheard of that you’re born here and you die here, it’s hard to venture out let alone make it out as a band. Bloodstock has always been a festival we’ve admired and watched videos of! We never imagined getting the chance to play! It truly means the world to us to get this opportunity and you can expect the force of a blizzard to send you straight into an ice age! We look forward to playing this year and can’t wait to see everyone!
