The definition of New Blood, Edinburgh, Scotland’s Extort were established in 2019 but didn’t make their live debut until June 2022. Though, since then it’s been non-stop forward momentum for the five-piece metal band.

Not just in the live arena either, as they released their debut EP ‘Reset’ earlier this year. An EP that firmly put them on the map and we reviewed here, saying that:

Extort proudly join the list of Scottish up-and-coming raging heavyweights to check out. Delivering a pounding, frantic, and guttural groove-infused blast of extreme heaviness with this release.

It’s no real surprise then that they battled their way through the challenging Metal 2 The Masses Scotland events and eventually won the entire thing. This year’s M2TM’s have been chock full of quality bands but Scotland seemed like a particularly strong field this year. Which speaks volumes about the quality of Extort and how they have managed to capture the attention of so many people, so quickly.

Playing Bloodstock 2023 is a fitting reward for a band that has been working so hard, but like so many, it’s just the next step for them. They have plenty more shows to come this year and are working away on their next release already. Bloodstock 2023 is the culmination of this part of Extort’s journey, and the future is extremely bright for this young band.

Get yourself over to the New Blood stage on the Saturday of the festival if you want to see and hear what all the fuss is about. Don’t take our word for it though, we spoke to them about what it means to play the festival, what Bloodstock means to them, and what attendees can expect from their show. They had this to say:

Playing Bloodstock means a lot to us as It’s the culmination of years of work on the band. The opportunity of playing for such a wide and varied audience and to meet a lot of people in the industry is truly amazing. We want to work hard for this to deliver the best we can and make the most of it for future opportunities! We are getting ready to deliver our 110% and we are truly buzzing about it!

Bloodstock to us represents the UK Metal Scene’s holy land, where the industry and crowd meet to celebrate metal music. The vibe and atmosphere are super friendly and it’s like a big family. We experienced the festival from the audience’s point of view last year and we had an amazing time. This year we cannot wait to explore it even more from the artist and stage side. It means a lot to us as an independent band to be given this opportunity by the UK metal scene.

Whoever has seen us before, knows that we always put 100% into our stage presence and drive in live shows. Especially for big events, we tend to organise something special and involve the audience. For Bloodstock, we have a lot of plans for unconventional initiatives, merch competitions and the biggest crowd pogo jump that the New Blood stage has ever seen!
