Bloodstock 2022 Band Feature: The Kunts
Bloodstock Open Air 2022 takes place from August 11th and August 14th with a line-up that might be one of the best the festival has ever put on. A wide array of rock and metal acts spread across four stages, it’s looking likely to be a weekend not to be missed. Pick up tickets here.
Let’s not mince words here, Kunt and the Gang and the off-shoot band, The Kunts aren’t too bothered if you’re offended. In fact, for Kunt, it’s a necessity. Especially as the dark comedian has become something of a British household name in recent times with The Kunts.
How? Why? Well, for this completely independent band, it’s as much about capturing the zeitgeist of now as it is comedy.
After spending over a decade performing as Kunt and the Gang, touring non-stop, gaining plenty of accolades and picking up plenty of controversy along the way, The Kunts entered the fray. Recording and releasing the ‘Kunts Punk In Your Face’ album, reworking earlier Kunt and the Gang material into a late 70’s punk style.
It was this album that spawned one of The Kunts biggest hits, the anthem for the past few years in the UK, ‘Boris Johnson Is A Fucking Cunt’. A massive hit for The Kunts, it even ended up in the top 10 of the music charts over Christmas 2020. With the follow-up, ‘Boris Johnson Is Still a Fucking Cunt’ hitting the same heights over Christmas 2021.
Chances are, if you know The Kunts, it’s for these songs or at least your local gammon complaining about it. Remember, The Kunts don’t care if you’re offended and it’s not like Johnson was the first political figure to be in the firing line of The Kunts.
Nobody is safe from The Kunts, although it seems not being a piece of shit will certainly help. So, in classic Kunts style, how do you celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee? By releasing the single ‘Prince Andrew is a Sweaty Nonce’.
A track that became the UK’s BEST SELLING single of the Jubilee week, charting at No.1 in the Official Sales Chart, No. 1 in the downloads chart, No.1 in the Independent Chart and No. 20 in the Official UK Chart which combines sales and streams.
The song outsold nearest rival Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill (which was featured in Netflix Drama Stranger Things) by over 2 to 1.
Out-fucking-standing.
In a rare move for Bloodstock, The Kunts will be performing at the festival this year, but in an unusual slot. Enjoyed Mercyful Fate? The headliner of the main stage on the Saturday and don’t fancy a bit of Malevolence on the Sophie stage? Pop over to the Jägermeister stage where The Kunts will be performing a very special late-night set. A set called The Kunts Unplugged. It’s going to be quite outrageous but a ton of fun.
Don’t take our word for it, Kunt was asked about performing snd what fans can expect from their upcoming set and had this to say:
Me and the other Kunts are really looking forward to playing at Bloodstock. The thing we are most excited about is getting the crowd joining in with singing Boris Johnson is a Fucking Cunt and Prince Andrew is a Sweaty Nonce. I literally can’t wait.
