Bloodstock 2022 Band Feature: Steel Mage
Bloodstock Open Air 2022 takes place from August 11th and August 14th with a line-up that might be one of the best the festival has ever put on. A wide array of rock and metal acts spread across four stages, it’s looking likely to be a weekend not to be missed. Pick up tickets here.
What an underground scene the UK has. Don’t ever tell us that it’s floundering, not when one scan of the New Blood stage at Bloodstock 2022 will show you that is far from the case. Not when bands like Sheffield’s Steel Mage exist.
The five-piece combine melodic metal with hardcore to deliver a heavyweight sound that betrays their young age. The band full broke into the scene in 2020 with a spate of releases leading to their debut album, As the Chapel Falls, which was released on the 1st of July 2022.
An album that we loved, giving it a score of 9/10 and describing it as:
A captivating and evocative debut album, Steel Mage have stepped forth to stake their claim in the British metal scene. Ten tracks (including an intro and intermission) of blistering hardcore intensity, melody driven metal and groove. This is the stuff that compels you to head-bang and head-bang until you can’t anymore.
With this much quality, it’s no surprise that Steel Mage earned their spot at Bloodstock by smashing through the competition in the Leeds Metal 2 the Masses events. Their reward? The New Blood stage on the Saturday of the festival. Sure to be one of the shows of the entire weekend, there’s no denying that this is just the next step on the path to greatness that Steel Mage are currently racing down.
We asked them what it meant to be playing the festival this year and what fans can expect from their set. They had this to say:
Playing Bloodstock Festival is a dream come true for us. To share the stage with some of our most favourite bands and bands that introduced us to the genre is absolutely wild. We can’t wait to perform, check us out on the New Blood Stage on Saturday!
