Bloodstock 2021 Band Feature: Raging Speedhorn
A band that should no introduction, Raging Speedhorn have been smashing skulls, tearing up stages and releasing banger albums since 1998. Being a major reason why many of us know where Corby, Northamptonshire is.
As was the norm in the late nineties and early noughties, Speedhorn got lumped in with the nu-metal crowd even though their music shared more in common with the sludge metal scene. If you were of a certain age, you couldn’t ignore the critical acclaim that came the band’s way off the release of their self-titled debut in 2000.
The single ‘Thumper’ off that album was a smash but it was the 2001 single ‘The Gush’ that really seemed to put Raging Speedhorn on the map. One listen of this track told you everything you needed to know about Raging Speedhorn and for many, it was the moment they fell in love with them.
Tour after tour, album after album… Raging Speedhorn were unstoppable. We Will Be Dead Tomorrow in 2002, How the Great Have Fallen in 2005 and Before the Sea Was Built in 2007. All great albums in their own right but alas, the Speedhorn train came to a halt in 2008. The band split, the members went their own way and that was that for Corby’s finest.
At least until early 2014 when the band announced their reformation. Since reforming, the band have toured steadily and appeared at numerous festivals across the UK; including Download Festival, Damnation Festival, Sonisphere Festival, Bloodstock Festival, HRH and many more. Raging Speedhorn were back and hadn’t lost any of the fire in their bellies.
That led to 2016’s well-received Lost Ritual album and more recently, 2020’s Hard to Kill. An album that re-ignited a personal love for the band. You can read our review of the album here.
Which brings us to Bloodstock 2021 where Speedhorn will decimating the Sophie Lancaster stage on Friday the 13th August.
Always filled with vehemence, Raging Speedhorn are a delight to catch live and have previously torn Bloodstock Festival a new one. You’re guaranteed a seriously heavy set but imagine how much pent-up energy this band has now, having been forced off the road for so long because of COVID. Unable to bring the new songs of Hard to Kill to the masses, this set promises to be brutal.
Don’t just take our word for it though. We asked the band what fans can expect and they had this to say:
We cannot wait to be back at Bloodstock this year and it’ll be our first festival in over 2 years. We can finally play you guys some of our new record, Hard to Kill!
