Bloodstock 2018 – Band Feature/Interview: This Place Hell
This year’s Bloodstock Festival is shaping up to be one of the best ever with a line-up that spans all genres of rock and metal. If you haven’t picked up your tickets yet, what are you waiting for!? Check out our five reasons why you should go there.
Looking to leave the New Blood Stage in ruins, This Place Hell are a five piece aggressive metal band born out of a love for heavy riffs, and a disdain for the Irish music scene. Exploding on to the local metal scene in 2014, the then four piece became notorious for their ferocious live shows.
Since then the band toured extensively within Ireland, as well as venturing across to the UK, Czech Republic and even as far as Russia! In between tours they released two EP’s called Malice and Contempt.
With new releases on the horizon, This Place Hell are hungrier than ever to bring their live show to stages across the world. Make sure you warm up the neck muscles for their devastating set on the Sunday of the festival!
Head over to their website to find out more, pick up merchandise and previous releases. You can also check them out on their Facebook Page, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. While you’re at it listen to their music on Spotify, Deezer and Apple Music below.
Interview
1. Tell us about your journey in this year’s Metal to the Masses competition. You won in Ireland!
Our journey so far has been amazing. We were no strangers to the competition and we knew exactly what to expect, and that was some seriously tough competition, but a togetherness of the Irish metal scene like no other! This was our third time to get to the final and regardless of any competition, as it is every year the gigs were awesome. Each heat is run by the best people around and is done so professional and whether you win or advance or not you get free media coverage and photos as well as an opportunity to sell merch.
Winning the competition was great for us. As much as we had liked to pretend we didn’t care, once Simon got on the stage to announce the results our hearts were in our throats. We had been in the final crowd a few times to no avail, but to hear him announce our name as the winning band was something else. It threw petrol on an already burning fire to see our hard work and perseverance pay off.
2. How important of a platform is the New Blood Stage for yourselves?
The platform of the New Blood Stage for us is so important, it is an opportunity. Its an opportunity to share what we do with many new people. Its an opportunity for us to show the people of Bloodstock what we’re made of and it is an opportunity for us to represent our country. There are a lot of amazing bands in Ireland right now such as Jenova, Rouen, Bailer, Worn Out and Dead Label to name a few, so anything we can do to shine a light on our country is important.
For ourselves, it is going to coincide with some new music we are bringing out and it will give us the opportunity to get the out to the right people at the right time and in the right way. Plus, we are a live band, our strength is in our performance so if anyone has been on the fence about us before hopefully once they see us live we will have them on our side!
3. What are your thoughts on playing the festival? Have you ever been there before?
We are all really nervous about playing but we are also super excited. This will probably be one of the biggest crowds we have ever played to and we want to give it everything we have got. To be able to share the stage with so many amazing bands and to have our name associated with bands like Gojira, Judas Priest and Nightwish is a dream come true in itself.
None of us have ever been to Bloodstock so this year we are ‘popping our Bloodstock cherry’ by actually getting to play at it which we are very grateful for. This is definitely going to be the highlight of our ‘career’ so far.
4. Are you going to be around the festival all weekend? If so who are you excited to see?
Yes! We are driving over Thursday night/Friday morning so we will be nice and early to get to see as many as we can. We are all dying to see Gojira, as I imagine almost everyone is. As well as that we will be looking forward to seeing Devildriver, Cannibal Corpse, At the Gates, Jasta, Judas Priest and so many more, we are actually spoiled for choice this year , the line up is amazing this year!
5. What’s next for This Place Hell?
Next up for us is a single release we have coming very soon. We recorded 3 songs over in the UK with Justin Hill (formerly of Sikth) earlier in the year and we have a music video due out shortly. We plan on releasing it in July before we head for Agressive Music fest in the Czech Republic and just in time for Bloodstock. After that we have a few more shows back home and we are going to be heading back to Justin to record some more and have a big release next year.
