Interview
1. Tell us about your journey in this year’s Metal to the Masses competition.
Our journey in Metal to the Masses 2018 really signified the birth of the new ‘CrawlBlind’ since disbanding in 2002. Heat One was (Guitarist) Calvin Chadwick’s first show with the band and (Bassist) Matt Gamble’s second. Since then, CrawlBlind has gone from strength to strength releasing four new singles – The Abyss, Never Over, Venom and Parasite and have been given great opportunities to play other amazing local shows around the county.
The standard of competition in the area was incredible and every round went down to the wire, it’s a real testament to all the bands in the area making noise and to hear Simon Hall announce our name after the Final was surreal. The celebrating is all done though and we’re busy putting in the work now to make sure we do everything we can to make Bloodstock remember our name.
2. How important of a platform is the New Blood Stage for yourselves?
You can only win Metal to the Masses once as a band and that shows how important it is. Its a dream come true for all of us to play at a major UK festival and we want to make sure we take full advantage of being in field with 15,000 other metal heads and take full advantage of every opportunity we can over the weekend. Of course going out and doing the business on the New Blood Stage is number one priority but we wanna speak too everyone we can and make as many friends as we can over the weekend so come say hello and have a drink with us!
3. What are your thoughts on playing the festival? Have you ever been there before?
Its hard to sum up the feeling of being given this kind of opportunity. We’ve all been buzzing since Simon Hall announced us as winners on May 24th and that feelings barely warn off since. Only bassist Matt Gamble has been to Bloodstock before having played with his band Soulborn in 2015 but we’re all really excited lose our virginity and soak up as much of Bloodstock as we can – hopefully it isn’t the only time we’ll be able to grace one of the stages there!
4. Are you going to be around the festival all weekend? If so who are you excited to see?
We’re planning to get there as soon as the gates open on Thursday. Hopefully we can make some friends and get some of the loyal Bloodstockers to come and check us out on Sunday!! I cant speak to everyone but i’m definitely looking forward to Pallbearer, Feed the Rhino, Devil Driver and of course Alpha Omega who also won a spot at Bloodstock through Metal to the Masses East Anglia.
5. What’s next for Crawlblind?
We’re going to lock ourselves away get ready to give it everything we’ve got at Bloodstock and finish recording our new album set for an Autumn release. We’re only just getting started!!!
