Band Interview: Wildheart
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are very pleased to bring you an interview with melodic hardcore Australian band, Wildheart.
1. How did you get started as a band?
We all came from other bands that had broken up or faded out, so us being the members who were still keen to create music came together we just started writing music. We didn’t have any particular genre in mind, we just wanted to write music that was heavy, melodic and powerful so we started writing and recording our first EP ‘A Thousand Days’.
2. How would you describe your sound?
Very melodic but still plenty of catchy heavy parts. We basically settled on ‘melodic hardcore’ as that’s the easiest way to describe it to people.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
So many bands haha. But I’ve had many people say to me that we remind people of early For The Fallen Dreams, The Ghost Inside which definitely had a big impact on me.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
It’s a mixed bag to be honest. There is a such a big move into sponsored content and freaking algorithms so sometimes you nail it and sometimes it doesn’t work out. But I think considering the level we’re at we’ve done pretty well as this is a first major release really pushing on these platforms. We have a lot of content in both music and video so the more content the better really.
Social media marketing is a hard one, it’s always changing and evolving but it’s become and integral part of how we reach people these days. At the end of the day if you write good music, play well live you’ll see some headway eventually.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
If I’m not spending time with my girlfriend I’m playing video games (hanging out hard for Red Dead Redemption 2) reading or looking for new places to eat.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We have our eyes set on a full length, in the meantime we’ll be hitting the road next year and keep writing and writing around it and maybe get ourselves overseas!
We’d like to thank Wildheart for taking the time to speak with us. Their new EP, We Are is out now via all major stores and streaming services. You can find out more by checking them out on Facebook and on YouTube.
