Band Interview: Vulgarithm
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with electronica metal hybrid artist, Vulgarithm.
1. How did you get started as a band?
Vulgarithm is a one-piece outfit, so discussions were quick and painless. The reason it came about was being inspired by 90s electronic nostalgia coinciding with the need for a fresh challenge. I am already in one hard rock band, and spent years slogging away on another solo project which started to get stale.
2. How would you describe your sound?
Big fat Drop C tuning riffs to electronic drum beats and synths. A mix between a metal band trying to be a DJ and a dance act try to sound really heavy.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Anything Trent Reznor or Maynard James Keenan have done, but with added influence such as Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers etc.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
At the time of the pandemic, it has allowed myself to concentrate on getting music out in the only way possible, which has lead to many heavy versions of Ibiza classics. However long term, unless you are extremely lucky and are addicted to social media, alternative music won’t be sustainable.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
I have no other hobbies, I also teach the guitar and music in my full time work so everything I do is music related. I do the same as everybody else around that, eating, drinking, catching up with mates, the usual.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
Finish the 3rd EP in the trilogy and release it next year, and start bringing Vulgarithm live to audiences for the first time face to face.
