Band Interview: The Reasons Why
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with grungy hard rock band, The Reasons Why.
1. How did you get started as a band?
(Scotty Bell – Vocals and Guitar) Brodie and I started out as an acoustic act, playing in pubs and cafes. After a while, we wanted to add some more to our sound, so we added Shev on drums. This really changed the dynamic of the band, and we found a more heavier/alternative sound. After a few line up changes and members leaving, we have the band we have today.
How would you describe your sound?
It’s a blend of a lot of things really! Mainly 90s grunge with a touch of hard rock? Most of our song writing structure comes from the band’s we grew up with, But hidden in there is a deep love of blues and the old metal bands from the 70s. There are even some prog elements thrown in there!
What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Definitely a lot of bands from the Seattle scene in the 90’s. Alice in Chains, Nirvana etc. that’s whole 90s sound really! Bush was a big one for me as well. It’s really difficult to find that sound these days. I’m not really a massive fan of modern pop or Rock. I would love to see a solid throw back to the late 80s early 90s rock!
Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
Its been awesome for us! The Melbourne music scene is really dying to pop and dance music. So people looking for our sound can simply do a search and they have it! Sure, the money side of things take a definite slash, but making money isn’t really on my radar right now. I just want to keep writing songs and playing shows! It’s about the love and fun for me!
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
I personally love Gaming! It’s a great way for me to wind down and let my brain turn off. I’ll be doing it long into my senior years, that’s for sure! Im also a massive fan of creepy shit! I would def love to be one of those weirdo ghost hunters! Though, I would probably just take the piss the whole time! Bottom line, if it’s creepy, I love it!
What are your future plans musically? Tours?
Just to release as much music and tour as much as we can! So you will be seeing a lot more of us!!!! As mentioned, Australia isn’t the greatest for live bands, I would love to that change! So if we get the opportunity, we will definitely be looking to do a lot more overseas!
