Band Interview: The Chapter
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with death/doom metal band, The Chapter!
1. How did you get started as a band?
Hi All! Greetings from Lisbon, Portugal!
The band started at the beginning of 2004. The first impulse came from Pedro Antunes by his desire to have a band inside the metal scene. Gonçalo Carvalho and João Gomes joined Pedro Antunes during the ramp up phase of the band and later on thesame year, Pedro Almeida and Vasco Macau joined the band.
2. How would you describe your sound?
Currently and in line with our debut album “Angels & Demons” released recently, the band is moving within the Death/Doom metal genres. To be honest, the composition process is always a stimulated process and a challenge. Each musician has different influences, which leads to a melodic, intense, emotional and heavy sound observed on the band’s records.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
There are several bands that influenced us as a band but mainly the likes of Opeth, Katatonia, Paradise Lost, Gojira, Swallow The Sun and Nevermore.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
In general, I would say that it has helped. I mean, at this stage as a band. We are promoting ourselves the album “Angels & Demons” but we want the band known as much as we can. YouTube and music streaming have a crucial role in the way the band shares our official content and interacts with the listeners. It is not exactly perfect but for now, there is a positive view about this topic.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Listening to music. Being around our friends, enjoying life every day and regaining the energy to go back again and spread our music.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We are currently on the road, doing shows and participating in some contests in Portugal, with very good feedback. So, the idea is to continue to fill the calendar with live shows until the end of the year. Along with the live stuff, we are working on new songs, new ideas for our music and always improving and respecting our influences as a band.
