Band Interview: The Beast of Nod

Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are very pleased to bring you an interview with technical death metal band, The Beast of Nod.

1. How did you get started in the band?

A number of years ago Paul started making the first demos with previous member Chris. Several years ago Görebläster joined up after meeting Ryan our previous bass player and began transforming the band into what it is today. Nate came in and did drums on our first EP and became a permanent member shortly after. We knew Brendan through friends and he joined us right before our second EP.

2. How would you describe your sound?

Intergalactic Death Metal [noun] 1. A subgenre of death metal music featuring linear song structures, odd time signatures, and extremely technical passages, wherein songs explore the characters and events of a sci-fi universe called “The Land of Nod.”

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

This list could be quite expansive but to name some, Scale the Summit, Plini, Cannibal Corpse, Cattle Decapitation, Dream Theater, Death, Animals as Leaders, Gojira and Dying Fetus.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

In some small ways it’s helped us but certainly hasn’t hindered us. We feel as though it’s a good thing to have the ability to get our music and media out to people so we appreciate the opportunity it provides.

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

Görebläster when not working in his physics lab enjoys playing video games, working on electronics for Görebläster Electronics, running and staying in shape. Nate likes tinkering with his drum kit, learning everything there is to know about his favorite bands, and anything relating to Star Wars or Batman. Brendan seems to do just three things, drink beer, read books, and listen to black metal and sometimes old school death metal. Paul enjoys reading comics, studying natural history and lifting weights.

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

Full album release is May 21st and pre-sale links are already up! We’ll also have the first issue of our comic, 360 stereoscopic 3D VR playthrough video and more coming out as well. Additionally, every week for the remainder of the year we will be releasing another piece of media or content. We also look forward to beginning to write new music for our next EP ‘The Land Before Nod’ very soon.

Our upcoming shows can be found at our Facebook page under events.

We’d like to thank The Beast of Nod for taking the time to speak with us. You can pick up the debut album over on Bandcamp, via their online store and stream via Spotify and Apple Music above. Find out more by checking out their website and their Facebook Page.
