Band Interview: The Almas
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life bring you an interview with hard rock/alt-metal band, The Almas.
1. How did you get started as a band?
Frank Slifka is the founding member of the band. The band was formed in 2016 when Frank left a previous project in hope to start a new sober life and project.
2. How would you describe your sound?
In the past the band has always said, “or music is like a hard rock version of Fleetwood Mac, just dirtier.” However with the growth of our music, I’d say it is better described as Pretty Reckless meets Falling In Reverse.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Each member has always brought a unique style and influence to our music. Some of the artists that have influenced us the most are AC/DC, Green Day, Taylor Swift, Blondie, Blink 182, Twenty One Pilots, and Buckcherry. These are the roots of our influences, however we are constantly being musically changed by new bands and artists.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
It’s a little bit of both. Music streaming has made music so easily accessible which means more people can access your music and more people can be exposed to it. With that being said, the steaming world has become so over saturated with music it’s very hard to even be found unless you spend more time working the algorithm then making music. Also streaming platforms don’t pay the artist very well. The band has never put its stock in the streaming industry except for what it is good for, exposure. The band relies on touring and meeting people in the flesh which creates a much greater lasting impression then any 30sec Tiktok or platform could ever do.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Honestly, music is life. We are touring so much that all our free time is spent with family and prepping for the next tours or music video shoots. I guess when there is some free time, it’s lots of Netflix.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We have so much in store for this year. We can assure you of consistent touring, single releases, and many new and exciting things! Some of the big events coming up (that we can mention now) are Monster Hall Music Festival on Friday, June 9th in Unity, WI with Flaw and Scotty Austin (formerly of Saving Abel), the freshly announced Rock Fest in Cadott, WI on Friday, July 14th where we will be performing along with some of our favorites like Slipknot, Falling In Reverse, Ice Nine Kills, and Asking Alexandria, to name a few. We will also be performing at the Sturgis Bike Rally this August 2nd and 6th with Scotty Austin (formerly of Saving Abel) in South Dakota!
