Band Interview: Superlung
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with grungy, alternative rock band, Superlung!
1. How did you get started as a band?
Forrest Wilkes (Bass) and Zimmy (Vocals) were in the US Navy in the early 90’s stationed in Palau, Sardinia – Italy. They played in a band together called Pushrod, they always said that when they got out they wanted to start a band back in the US. Fast forward 20 odd years and in late 2018, they decided to start a band. Recruiting Ryan McKeown (Drums), Jeremy Buendorf (Guitars), and Bret Pedersen (Guitars, Backing Vocals) SuperLung was formed.
2. How would you describe your sound?
SuperLung is a working class Alternative Rock Band from Mankato, Minnesota. We have an early 90’s Seattle Grunge Rock feel to our music.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, 311, Screaming Trees.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
I believe that it has helped us. These sites and digital platforms allow bands like us to push our music world wide and getting your music out to as many ears as you can is never a bad thing.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Some of us like motorcycles and riding all over, we will go fishing or hunting, being from Minnesota we have over 10,000 lakes to enjoy and beautiful woods and rivers, good way to reconnect.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
With the COVID scare, we, like most bands, had to cancel our 2020 live shows and are just hoping that we can play out in 2021. We are going to record a new album here in late 2020 so we have new music for people in 2021, if we can tour, then we have a new album to tour on as well. Let’s hope for the best!
