Band Interview: Suicide Forest

1. How did you get started as a band?
Suicide Forest is a one man depressive black metal project that officially started in 2016 after years of writing and performing in other projects. Live performances began soon after the release of the first demo. Performers have included members of Chronovorus and North.
2. How would you describe your sound?
The style is depressive black metal with elements of 20th century Classical and Minimalism.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Influences include Philip Glass, Shining, Thy Light, Arvo Pärt, Totalselfhatred, and Steve Reich.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
In general these platforms have helped Suicide Forest to reach more people.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
In the few rare moments where I’m not making music, I’m studying music, I’m listening to music, I’m watching music or snuggling cats and watching cat videos.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
The third demo Apathy is available for preorder and will be released 7/7/17 to coincide with the cassette release containing the first two demos Emptiness, and Indifference on one cassette from Fòlkvangr Records. Future plans include more live performances, longer releases, and splits.
