Band Interview: SUE
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are very pleased to bring you an interview with SUE. A Noise Rock/Post-Punk/Punk Rock unit from the West Midlands in the UK. Their debut album ‘It Will Never End’ is out now and you can read our review here.
1. How did you get started as a band?
I (Elliot here) started SUE in September 2016. My previous band had just broken up and I was looking for something new, so I started making very bad demos in my Dad’s music room. After a couple months I wanted to get a band together, so I got in touch with Ashley (guitar) to get him on board. We cycled through a couple lineups until Euan (drums) and Harry (bass) came to join us in 2018. Since then we’ve put out an EP and an album, as well as doing loads of shows round our local area.
2. How would you describe your sound?
Imagine the musical equivalent of an elephant fighting to the death with a pack of hyenas, that get pretty close.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Fugazi were a great punk band that are really influential on us, their sound is a great mix of punk and post-hardcore. Metz are also a big influence; they were the first band to introduce me to Noise rock and how chaotic the music can be.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
Both I guess, it’s easier to get yourself out there but standing out in the endless sea of bands and artists is very difficult.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Listening to music is a big one. I also enjoy reading, currently I’m on Charles Bukowski’s The Pleasures of the Damned and so far it’s been a real interesting read.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
Getting a tour together would be great; it’s finding the time that’s difficult. Hopefully it’ll happen sooner rather than later. At the moment I’m trying my best to promote our new album, hopefully some more opportunities come from that.
The album can be streamed via all major services including Bandcamp here. Head over to SUE’s website, Facebook Page, Instagram and YouTube to find out more!
