Band Interview: Sleeping Around
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with nu-metal/emo-rap band, Sleeping Around.
1. How did you get started as a band?
I’ve known Jaron since 8th grade and we’ve been jamming together since however it wasn’t till last January that we sat down and decided to put everything into this dream to make it a reality.
2. How would you describe your sound?
Nu-Metal meets Emo Rap, think LiL Peep mixed with the heaviness and live instruments like those of Linkin Park.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Slipknot, Linkin Park, The Smashing Pumpkins, LiL Peep, Juice WRLD, Lil Tracy, and XXXTENTACION to name a few.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
The internet really is a blessing and a curse, on one hand our music is available worldwide with the click of a button letting us receive greater exposure at a much faster rate than the nineties. However from a financial perspective this gives no incentive for listeners to buy full albums, physical or even digital which puts a lot more pressure on artists to tour constantly. Touring is fun but too much will break even the strongest humans and I think that pressure has been a driving force in the death of artists like Juice WRLD and LiL Peep, RIP.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Jaron is super passionate about MMA and Muay Thai, he’s very disciplined and trains six days a week minimum. Jaron is definitely a role model I look up to anytime my work habits and discipline fall off haha. Besides making music I love trading stocks, It can be very risky but if you are disciplined it’s a lot of fun and pretty addicting haha.
6. Tell our readers about the latest video.
Nothing special, just a single stream, we want to do a full blown music video the next drop or the one after. I figured we’ll start small and more mysterious and get people excited for a full length high quality music video. The song is our first offering that solidifies our sound into this emo rap nu-metal wave, I think if you’re a fan of either genres you’ll dig the new track as it’s a nice balanced mix of both, we even added a breakdown for our more heavy listeners. I wrote the song when I was very depressed living in NYC and tired of being lonely. Oftentimes we focus on what’s behind us instead of getting excited about what is yet to come, and that is the essence of depression.
