1. How did you get started as a band?

Good question! Firstly, I am predominantly solo although projects also see me work with other artists. I loved music from an early age – I took up the piano at around 12 then taught myself to play guitar from the theory learned on the piano. I played drums in the the Boys’ Brigade, so started playing in a Club band at the age of 14. One year later, I was playing lead guitar in the band and stayed with that instrument.

In the fulness of time and with technology, I was able to write, record and produce my own music and that with others, such as my lady partner on the duo Bukechi. For myself, I have recorded 3 albums and played as session guitarist on many others.

2. How would you describe your sound?

Very eclectic! Sometimes peoples mistake me for a ‘Clapton’ sound, others the Shadows. I normally use a Fender Stratocaster, so Clapton and Shadows sound comes easily through. However, “Were Am I?” One of my favourite instrumentals sounds like Jeff Beck for sure (which is why I was so happy with that track). “Aunty Bulgaria” on my new album, is rock guitar, again with the Strat, but I’m not sure who I sound like on that. I’m very proud of that one – I think I sound like me!

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

Definitely CCR, TYA, Hendrix, Clapton and Carlos Santana. I am however, trying to get more into jazz and George Benson is a terrific guitar player.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

Both. It’s great to put you stuff out there, but of course, the market is flooded with excellent music. It’s a leveller though and I think the artist who works the hardest cab reap the rewards.

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

Fly fishing! On my first album, I called an instrumental “Brown Trout”. Whereas the last two albums, all tracks were dedicated to specific people, I had no one in mind for my first album, and being instrumental, no specific themes.

I also like all live music, no matter the genre or quality. Wins over mimed music every time!

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

As predominantly a writer, recorder, producer, I have no specific plans to tour presently. The pandemic put a stop to my touring, but allowed me to finish two albums. I do have gigs organised with my duo Bukechi, but may put taking my new album on the road on hold for the time being. It is more likely my 4th album “Feckam Hall” will be completed first.

I am collaborating with a Cotswold singer/keyboard player, Andrew James who sang on my track “I Wonder” and would like to gig with him sooner rather than later.
