Band Interview: Riveryard
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with atmospheric indie rock band, Riveryard!
1. How did you get started as a band?
Lennon and Dom had already started the band when Simon joined. They met through friends in school playing in different bands and eventually finding their way to starting one together. Simon joined after the previous singer ran out on them the night before a new year’s gig. Knowing barely any of the songs on the set he reluctantly agreed and the gig went well. A week later he was asked to join the band permanently.
2. How would you describe your sound?
At the moment we are reshaping our sound to fit more to a 3 piece. If we were to be classed into a genre it would probably be a kind of atmospheric indie rock.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
The smiths and oasis are a big influence to us. The chiming and expressive melodies of Johnny Marr and the beautiful songwriting of Noel Gallagher influenced us heavily to start creating music and make our own legacy.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
Music streaming services have made it much easier to release our music to our fans and has allowed us to reach a broader audience and that’s what we want to achieve at the minute, to reach as many people as possible with our music.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
We all have our own hobbies outside of the band and work, but many interlink. We have a shared interest in boxing and ufc, occasionally getting together to watch the big fights. At a local pub gig we paused mid way through the second set to cheer on Anthony Joshua against Joseph Parker. Even though it was only a small venue, that gig will still be remembered for a long time down the line.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
With the Covid-19 pandemic it has been hard to plan new shows in the future without fear of them being cancelled, however as soon as it is safe to do so we will get back to gigging wherever we can. We have got 3 singles to release in the next few months, the next one being ‘I’ll find you’ at the end of this month.
