Band Interview: River Stole Gods
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life bring you an interview with bassist Adam of progressive metalcore band, River Stole Gods.
1. How did you get started as a band?
In 2018, when my previous band had split up, I was searching for musicians who were up tp a progressive metalcore project and would love to found a band. I scrolled through numerous posts in Facebook groups for musicians and luckily found Raphael, who had the same thought. When we first met up, eating some fries and talking, we knew, we had to start a band together. We got immediately into writing the songs you can hear today on “Sky Architects Deluxe”. Until 2019, we found Lasse and the previous members and started “River Stole Gods”.
2. How would you describe your sound?
As a well-balanced mixture of techy riffs, heavy breakdowns and catchy hooks.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
For me personally, it is “Karnivool”, as their bassist Jon Stockman is my idol. In my eyes he is the personification of progressive, innovative bass playing. For the band itself, there are many bands, who are influencing our style, as everyone of us enjoys different metal genres. From “Architects”, over “Lorna Shore” back to “Tesseract”, you can discover a lot of influences in our music.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
I think it is a double-edged sword, as it seems easier than ever to bring your music to the people, but it is difficult to pop out in the mass of really good musicians and bands. For me, it feels like, that views, likes and streams count more than the music itself, nowadays. This puts a lot of pressure on bands: they have to be social media managers, videographs and art directors at the same time to represent themselves in the best possible light, rather than just enjoying what they love: making music.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Good food and good coffee as well as long walks, especially now in autumn (my favorite season).
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
As you know, with “Holding On”, we have released the first chapter of our Single-Trilogy “New Eyes” and this Winter, the next two chapters are gonna drop. So, don’t sleep on us the next few months! Besides that, of course we are planning to play as much as possible next year, hopping to tour Europe a bit.
