Band Interview: Reputdeath
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are very proud to bring you an interview with filth-encrusted death metal band, Reputdeath! Their latest release Demo II is out now & you can read our review of it here.
1. How did you get started as a band?
It’s all start at the end of 2009. Back then, we’re just “bloody idiot stupid” deadheads who loved and obsessed over the likes of Autopsy, Nihilist and Impetigo’s sound. As well as possessed by some classic zombie, horror and gore movies, most of them from George A. Romero, Lucio Fulci and some Italian horror movies.
The idea to form this band came up when me, Sam, Fastgore and Red Laceration rehearsed together one night back to 2009. Before the creation of Reputdeath, I and Fastgore already played together with Disrotten (D-beat/Crust Punk).
Back then, we thought we should carry the idea to form this band so we kept rehearsing. One day in the middle of June 2010 we managed to record our own songs in a small cabin store at our friend’s house. We managed to record 4 tracks on that day but it takes almost two years before Derangement Project Production released our first demo “Into The Cryptos” back in 2012.
2. How would you describe your sound?
Raw and dirty-primitive sound! We try to play some raw, dirty and filthy tunes of Old School Death Metal in the veins of Autopsy, Nihilist and Impetigo. At least we try. We keep its simple as fuck without a solo guitar. It’s totally dirty, crusty and raw sound embalmed from BOSS HM-2!
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Definitely the gravedigger style of Autopsy, Nihilist, Impetigo as well as all classic horror-gore movies. We love to mix classic zombie-horror dialog within our songs and we just write simple forward lyrics. Nothing fucking technical! Worship the dead and praise the horror!
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
Yeah, I think so. YouTube and other music platforms like Bandcamp have helped us a lot to spread our music outside from our place. The existence of the internet give us a huge dimension nowadays and it’s also helped us to communicate with other freak-heads in easy and fast ways. We still like to keep the ‘old’ Underground spirit like trading demo tapes, spreading band flyers into the Death Metal-Underground scene. We keep this spirit alive.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
We just hang out at our favourite places, have some good drinks and share stories about what happens around our local Underground scenes. Re-watching some old good horror-films and playing football on the weekend also are some of the things that fulfil our schedule.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
Currently, we’re in process of recording our third demo and hoping that it will be unleashed before the end of this year. We will give you some advanced tracks from the upcoming demo shortly. We’re tidying up a heavy work schedule so no tour planned right now but we’re ready, festering and decaying to get on the stage again come August 5. Sabah Deathfest #4 takes place in our hometown and we really excited to slaughter all the horror tunes live again!
We’d like to thank Reputdeath for taking the time to speak with us. You can stream & download their music for free over on Bandcamp here!
