Band Interview: Random Ties
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with high energy, feel good rock band, Random Ties.
1. How did you get started as a band?
Random Ties is the dream I put on hold for many years.
We came together in the summer of 2019, which was the year my wife & new born at the time moved to Detroit from Beirut.
I didn’t know anyone when I got here so I started going to open mics & meeting other musicians which this is where I met KD who plays the drums thunderously bringing that heavy hitting power with amazing fills & breaks, Thew whose on the second guitar, compliments my playing with his fills that are all over our EP & Steven originally from Nirvana’s hometown brought a grunginess to the album with some great baselines.
2. How would you describe your sound?
A high energy feel good vibe & a dynamic sound topped with an honest message.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Everything started with the Beatles I was blown away by their music & how deep their lyrics were, then I was introduced to Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray, Guns n Roses, Nirvana, Pearl Jam & the Foo Fighters I can go on and on
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
Definitely helped, it has given musicians a channel to release videos & interact with audiences all over the world, I grew up watching MTV & you needed a major label to back you & spent thousands of dollars for your video to even be considered & now thanks to streaming platforms like YouTube & Spotify your music can reach listeners you would have dreamed about in the past.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Being a new parent, I am blessed to be able to spend as much time as I can with my son & that brings me such joy, I also enjoy going outdoors & exploring gives you space to think, reflect & grow.
Your songs are a reflection of you & how you see the world, every interaction & experience impacts your creativity, inspiration is all around us we just have to stop looking for things that are not there & appreciate what we already have.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
Our goal is to consistently release quality music & reach a wider audience geographically so a big thanks to you for giving us this interview & a voice.
Our EP “Believe” was just released, consisting of 6 songs is available on all streaming platforms such as Spotify, iTunes, apple music, Band Camp & all our videos are on our YouTube channel.
We are working on releasing a new single called “Thawra” in August along with our 3rd video with the talented Layal Jebran which will be released on August 21st , I am proud of this video because it will raise awareness on what’s happening with the Lebanese revolution & abuse of political power.
Things are up in the air as far as touring but we’ve been busy this summer and we are at the end of our summer tour, we have two more shows at the Goose lake Jamboree Festival 50th anniversary on August 6 & at Corunna bar in Flint on the 8th.
