Band Interview: Rain in July

Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with alternative rock band, Rain in July.

1. How did you get started as a band?

We started making music together in high school, and Rain In July formed around that. We had all been in previous projects and previous bands, but we all came together and really started working towards a common goal, which has been a really great experience to be apart of.

2. How would you describe your sound?

Our sound is a mix of genres and emotions that creates a ‘Rain In July’ song. It’s a pop punk vibe with a bunch of influence from emo and alternative rock working together. We all have a ton of different influences, which allows us to be very diverse with the way that we write and create music together!

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

As a band, we have been very influenced by the work of Fall Out Boy and Taking Back Sunday. They have written songs that aren’t just popular, but are truly a soundtrack to a period of time for so many people. We are massive fans of their music, and it shows when we write. Personally, our influences vary from indie rock to hardcore punk, and we all take our experiences and influences and we work to try to push them together and write.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

It has helped without a doubt. A lot of people complain about streaming as a whole due to the lack of artist payment, and I completely understand that. However, streaming has helped our band out a ton because it has exposed us to so many new and different ears that wouldn’t have heard us otherwise. That is all we’re trying to do, show our music to different people that may enjoy, streaming has assisted us in that a ton.

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

We all work, attend school, and have girlfriends so along with Rain In July we have most of our time taken up. However, we all enjoy travelling and playing sports so we do that whenever we can. The best time not making music is still spent hanging out, we’re not quite sick of each other yet!

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

We are currently working on our 2nd EP. Additionally, we will have new music out in the form of a new single and music video next month. As far as touring goes, we are currently planning out a couple runs for later in the year as we continue our writing process for our second EP! We are extremely excited for what the rest of the year holds!

We’d like to thank Rain in July for taking the time to speak with us. You can pick up their music via Bandcamp and the usual streaming places as well as merch over on Big Cartel.
