Band Interview: Perseide

Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with modern metalcore band, Perseide.

1. How did you get started as a band?

Julien (vocals / rhythm guitar): Everything started with four childhood friends that wanted to form a rock band in 2001, as we were in high school. We were teenagers; we were passionate about metal music. The feeling it gave us made us want to get on stage like our idols. Naturally, we started imitating our favourite bands, and then we created our own band. Almost twenty years later, the passion is still the same!!!

2. How would you describe your sound?

It has always been difficult for us to describe our music style, because every member of the band has different music tastes… Personally, I came into metal music with classic bands like Metallica or Slayer, Adrien (lead guitar) was educated with progressive metal and Guillaume (bass) is a big nu metal fan! As for Anthony (drums), he’s into electro music and that’s why he loves to kick his bass drum so much!!! In total, this diversity is strength and we would describe our style as modern metal, ranging from pop to metalcore, with catchy synths and old school guitars: Perséide will remind you of your adolescence and that’s what we love!!!

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

We have a lot of inspirations because we really listen to a lot of music styles. But when it comes to modern metal music, the bands that have inspired us the most are Avenged Sevenfold, In Flames, The Used and Enter Shikari!

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

Of course it has helped us! As a (soon-to-be) twenty years old rock band, we have known the pre-Myspace era… At this time it was difficult for a band to share its music because you had to enter the music business by the big door. It was nearly impossible for a nonprofessional band to achieve a breakthrough… Nowadays, if you’re doing a good job, every music lover can enjoy it via the music streaming and you can reach a large audience if your music is awesome!

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

Every member of the band is very busy when he’s not playing music: personally, I’m a medical doctor in anaesthesia and critical care. The things I’ve seen in the hospital make me remember that when you’re in good health, you have to love your life and seize the day. That’s a concept that we like to inject into our lyrics and chords: enjoying the little things that are enjoyable, listening to music, losing yourself in a rock show and live it up!

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

We just released our first album “The Only Thing”. The next show will take place to celebrate the release of the album, November 7th 2020 in the CCO, Lyon, France. It will be a big rock party with our friends from Stereotypical Working Class and Trank, and we will propose a rock show with a lot of surprises! Furthermore, we are already working on new songs to record a new EP end 2020. A live video will be recorded during the concert for the release of the album, and 2021 will be marked with the release of new music videos and the new EP. We hope that it will allow us to book some great gigs with bands we love, and keep the inspiration to write new songs and make the experience even greater!
