Band Interview: Lure In
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with metalcore band, Lure In.
1. How did you get started as a band?
We started as a band when myself (Cameron) & our bassist Jonny wanted to create music together, we both wrote our first EP Derive in my bedroom, from there we were wanting to play shows & get in people to help write & perform so James (Guitarist), Jake (Guitarist), and Sammy (Drummer) joined the band.
2. How would you describe your sound?
The way I’ve always put it forward is Chaotic Metalcore with a healthy dose of genre blending, I know it’s a corny thing to say but we really try & make music which isn’t what you’d find in a stereotypical metalcore band or even just what you wouldn’t expect from a metal/heavy band.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Id say the main influences would a lot of early 00’s metalcore, bands such as The Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die, Norma Jean, but from there we also are inspired by bands like Daughter, La Dispute, as well as artists such as Brian Eno, Sophie, & even Kanye West, it varies song by song & what our listening habits as a band are at the time but I’d definitely say the main key including is the 00’s metalcore scene.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
In a way it’s helped us as I’m sure without it there would be many people in the world who wouldn’t have a clue who we are without those platforms, however there is the drawback with how revenue is split with those services, myself personally I’m a massive fan on how bandcamp set themselves up as a company, as it’s one of the only platforms which has a revenue split that works for the musicians, so it’s definitely a double edged sword but I’d say those platforms have helped us in regards to our reach but not too well financially, but that’s the industry now so we’ve got to work with it.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
For the five of us it’s definitely a mix of watching TV & Films, playing Video Games and Reading, definitely varies between band members and what’s going on with their day.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We’re still looking at new music after we’ve released the split record which drops the the 23rd April, but I think the next goal for sure is as soon as live events can come back we are going to need to make up for lost time & get back on a stage, we’re currently looking at self booking a tour which is going well so far, however as it’s not 100% boxed off yet we can’t really announce it, but we’re definitely staying as busy as we can.
