1. How did you get started as a band?

Lunar Woods got started as a studio project. The band was started by Ilya and Alexey. Ilya had a great number of musical ideas which the duo started to polish and record. We released around 19 tracks as EPs and singles before releasing the first album. We were longing for sharing our creative work with the world.

The band never had to grind the songs out: the creative potential has always been at the top. We rather don’t have enough time to record and fine-tune our ideas. Therefore, this is how the band persisted in the very beginning, as a studio project with session musicians participating in the recording process.

But with time, we realized that we need a full-fledged line-up. We wanted to create within an afforced team, to bring more color to the music. To do performances, after all! Thus, over time, we became a full-bloodied band and started to give performances.

There are now four members in the band. And this is real chemistry: with Ravil, the drummer, and Andrey, the guitar, the creative potential of the band fully unleashed. The band acquired very dense but very natural live sound. All this materialized in our new album, PAIN NO MORE, which is about to come out.

2. How would you describe your sound?

It’s a very tough question. We would avoid references to any music genre since even we do not know how to describe our sound more properly. We play heavy lyrical music with a steady tempo.

The influence of Post-Grunge, Post-Metal, alternative Rock, and Stoner is evident. But there are so many influences that the sound of Lunar Woods is in any case a unique mix that cannot be described by one particular genre.

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

Most often, we are being compared with Deftones, Alice in Chains, Tool, Queens of the Stone Age. At the same time, the musicians themselves are influenced by a great number of bands we love: from classical music and alternative music of the ninetieths to extreme styles of metal and electronic music.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

So far, our fans pool is rather moderate. But it truly has a vast geographical expanse: we have listeners in all corners of the world. Of course, this is greatly favored by social media and streaming services. Recently we’ve been very much benefited from playlists and algorithms of Spotify, Deezer, and Yandex.Music. Artificial intellect helps our potential audience to listen to our tracks even without reading social media, music magazines, and other promotion channels of the past. It’s splendid!

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

We are a team of friends. Lunar Woods is a real family. We spend a lot of time together whether drinking beer, watching movies together, traveling, or doing outdoor activities. We are all university-educated guys, and each of us has his specific avocations. I believe each one will be glad to tell about it in their social media accounts.

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

In the nearest time, we will release a new album, PAIN NO MORE. This is the fruit of the last two years’ work. All the nearest plans spin around the new release. We really want it to be listened to by everyone who may like it. We would surely like to go on tour to support the new album, but we’ll have to postpone touring for a while due to well-known reasons.
