Band Interview: Leaving Eden
Games Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life is proud to bring you an interview with Leaving Eden. A multi-award winning rock band from Boston, Massachusetts in the USA.
1. How did you get started as a band?
Hi! I’m Eve and I’m answering some of your questions along with Eric from Leaving Eden.
Happy Holidays! Myself and Eric started Leaving Eden and Johnny (Bass) was referred to us. Johnny then brought in Ryan on (drums.) Leaving Eden has Toured The USA, UK & Canada sharing the stage with hundreds of the biggest national bands in the world including; Lacuna Coil, In This Moment, Black Sabbath (Heaven & Hell), Ronnie James Dio, Rob Zombie, 5 Finger Death Punch, Disturbed, Marilyn Manson, Alice Cooper, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Puddle of Mudd, Korn, Killswitch Engage, Buckcherry (Jefferson Starship, Big Brother and The Holding Company, Country Joe, 10 Years After, 40th Anniversary Woodstock) Shinedown, Dropkick Murphy’s, Alice in Chains, Papa Roach, Bret Michaels, Halestorm, Theory of a Deadman, Avenged Sevenfold, Seether, Hell Yeah, Trapt, Dope, Soil, Fuel, Queensryche, Saving Abel, Hinder, Damage Plan, 7 Dust, Sebastian Bach, SoulFly, Days of the New, NonPoint, Drowning Pool, The Misfits, The Butcher Babies, Collective Soul, MushroomHead, Mudvayne, Chevelle, Godsmack, Powerman 5000, 10 Years, Taproot, Gin Blossoms, Michael Schenker (UFO, MSG & The Scorpions) Herman Rarebell (The Scorpions), Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), Kittie, One eyed doll, Uncle Kracker, Tremonti (Creed/Alter Bridge) Lamb of God, Slayer, Stone Sour, Motorhead, Blackstone Cherry, HOOKERS & BLOW Featuring GUNS N’ ROSES, QUIET RIOT, W.A.S.P. Members, Steven Tyler, Ted Nugent, Lita Ford, LA Guns, Trixter, Warrant, Apocalyptic Review (featuring members of Godsmack) Adelitas Way, Scott Stapp (The voice of Creed) & many more… So It’s been one Hell of a ride. I say Hell because we’ve been there too.
2. How would you describe your sound?
Eve: I like to think that our sound has a variety of elements intertwined with Rock, Hard Rock, Metal, Pop Rock & Acoustic so it’s difficult to label Leaving Eden. Lots of harmony and melody in the vocals too!
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Eve: For me, Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin. My parents ALWAYS played the radio so lots of these artists are embedded in my brain.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
Eric: Definitely helped! Any way that opens the doors to welcome people in is great! “There are three sides to every coin” the two obvious sides and then that thin side on the edge that joins the two sides. So one side is it becomes daunting with all of this ‘entertainment’ at your finger tips and being inundated with information which may seem overwhelming and can bury an artist under thousands of pages out there on the web. The other side, obviously, it gets an artist out there in all the spaces. The third side just embraces the other 2 sides, and serves as a happy medium. We get out there and play, go wherever the music takes us, kind of free spirits so to speak and with that said, it’s helpful to rise higher, thus utilising the web for ones advantage instead of disadvantage. Make sense?
5.What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Eric: Ha! That’s one of the curses of being a musician, ya never stop, never take a break in your mind at least. But really, um, I guess just chilling, relaxing, resting, saving up the energy. What’s cool about what we do is we get to see the world through touring so it gets to be like a permanent vacation. Sure it’s all work, but if ya love what your doing, then that’s the finest way to occupy your time.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
Eve: Yes, both! We are going into the studio next month with our dear friend Johnny K. (Disturbed, Staind, 3 Doors Down, Finger 11, Pop Evil.) We love Johnny and his incredible talent to bring out the true essence of Leaving Eden’s sound. Our plans for touring 2017 are big! USA, Canada and Europe baby! It will be so fun and I can’t say who we will be touring with, but I will say it’s some pretty big names. You can catch all Leaving Eden announcements on our links below and our website is always up to the minute!
I really had fun with you and I hope to see you when we pass through!
