Band Interview: Kollaps
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging life are pleased to bring you an interview with DIY post-industrial noise band, Kollaps.
1. How did you get started as a band?
With several other degenerate Australians. Over the years the project has combusted and reanimated itself until I managed to relocate to Switzerland and meet more like minded collaborators.
2. How would you describe your sound?
In descriptive words, I would use “romantic”, “harsh”, “honest”, “violent”. The sound, of course, pertains to no wave and industrial genres however it borrows quite heavily from elsewhere also and I do not ever feel afraid to genre hop when it is suitable.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Chu Ishikawa, Throbbing Gristle, SWANS, Marilyn Manson, VAST, Diapsiquir, Einsturzende Neubauten, Brighter Death Now.
4. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
I work a lot on booking tours for other bands but in my more leisurely moments I enjoy watching films, reading books, or having dinner with friends or my wife. I also have two pet quails that I’m very fond of.
5. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We have just released a new track called “The Hand of Death”, and will be releasing shortly a self produced video for “I Believe In The Closed Fist”. Both tracks are from the new record “Until The Day I Die” which will be available via Cold Spring Records during June. Preorders are available from the label’s website.
Lastly, we are also going on tour with Of The Wand & The Moon and Trepaneringsritualen in June where we will play a lot of eastern European countries as well as appear at Fusion Festival in Larz and Roskilde Festival in Denmark.
