Band Interview: Know Your Enemy
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with hard and heavy crossover over band, Know Your Enemy!
1. How did you get started as a band?
Know Your Enemy has had a couple of lineup changes but the band originally started in 2014. Back then, Fonz and Jason were writing and performing with two former members. Life changes and so do band members sometimes, so we eventually had our longtime friend, Steve join us on bass. A couple of years later, Byron became our drummer as our original drummer decided to further his academic goals and here we are, Know Your Enemy.
2. How would you describe your sound?
We’d describe it as aggressive heavy Rock with a HipHop infusion.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Well we’d have to say first, Rage Against the Machine. But also, Deftones, He Is Legend, Thrice.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
We’re sure it’s helping us reach people that otherwise would be hard to get to or impossible. But nothing replaces finding a band at a small venue.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
We literally hang out together a lot of the time. We do all kinds of normal stuff like camping, grill food, drink beers, go to see other bands and we even see each other on holidays. And while we do this we usually end up jamming or writing and discussing ideas for new songs.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We have two singles ready, they’re coming in the near future. A live EP that’s just about ready to release and we’ve been writing since we have all this free time due to the pandemic. As for tours, we’ll have to wait until the virus is under control before we can hit the road but we’d like to go up and down the east coast on our first opportunity.
