Band Interview: In Signs
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with alternative indie rock/pop band, In Signs.
1. How did you get started as a band?
The band was created in 2014 in the small town Cherkasy in the center of Ukraine. We had a lot of changes but went through all of them. In Signs started as a grunge and post-grunge band with original songs only. We played in local bars and few small towns in Ukraine.
I moved to Kyiv and everything has changed in a better way. Here I finalized the band’s squad, here we met Max who is our manager, and then Bob who was our first sound producer and who helped us with the first studio EP called ‘Find Your Home’. This EP consists of 5 songs with our original sound with grungy guitars and raspy vocals.
Then we met the new sound producer and In Signs reach the sound we wanted with him. We released 3 singles and, one of them was added to Spotify Editorial Playlists. So that was the right way. Currently, we are working on the new songs in Kyiv.
2. How would you describe your sound?
We don’t lock ourselves with just one genre. But I can say that we play a mix of Indie Rock, Alternative Music, and Alt-Pop. The next releases will prove it.
I care a lot about lyrics and music. I don’t want that someone calls us a commercial band or something like that. I don’t write about money or cars (I mean in a bad way). The real emotions, love, hate are much more important.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
I liked a lot Three Days Grace and their frontman Adam Gontier, so my music was kinda similar to them. At the same time, I’m still a huge fan of City And Colour which plays Indie Folk. These genres formed the stream of In Signs from the very beginning.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
YouTube & music streaming services are vital for us. I went through a lot of pages searching for any opportunity for the band. I learned many courses and it helped In Signs to start our way. Of course, we upload our songs on all streaming services platforms, but also everyone can find and download our songs for free on the Soundcloud account or our website.
We try our best to upload the new videos on the YouTube channel. We always film the studio, concerts, and other stuff so everyone can see it on YouTube.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
I spend my free time with family and friends just chilling out. But it’s hard to take relax and almost all the time our conversations go to the music side. Also, I like football a lot. I try my best to watch all games by my favourite team from my childhood which is Real Madrid. But I like football in general so if I have time I watch Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A and LaLiga of course. I took some break from playing football and I’m going to continue to play after the lockdown.
Sometimes I play FIFA 21 on Play Station. My Ultimate Team is not so strong but this game helps me to relax.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We don’t have concerts now but we would like to arrange a tour after the lockdown. For now, we are working in the studio on our new songs. We have many demos so the studio is the best way to go through such hard times for everyone.
