Band Interview: In Peril

Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with UK based hard rock band, In Peril.

1. How did you get started as a band?

Hayden, Gary & James all met roughly 15 years ago – all playing in another band (called Dry Til Friday) at various times. All this time later, they all got back together to start something new – originally with a different Lead Guitarist who, sadly had to go off his own way for personal reasons.

This is where Matt came along (around 18 months ago) and managed to fill the gap and we’ve been happy ever since!

2. How would you describe your sound?

We wouldn’t! None of us really feel that we slot into any one place, style-wise. We play stuff which ranges from ‘hard rock’ through to stuff with a more ‘punky’ feel. At the same time, we love to get dark and moody now and again!

If we like the way a song’s going when we’re writing, we just go where it takes us!

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

We’ve all got a massively broad variety of musical influences – which we think helps give us really a really broad creative mindset. For example – Gary’s heavily into the likes of Guns ‘N’ Roses & Stone Sour, while Hayden’s tastes get a bit heavier and darker in the likes of Deftones’ Steff Carpenter.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

Collectively, we love the fact that it’s so easy now to get your music out there – we’ve been pushing our tunes on Spotify and the other major streaming outlets (iTunes / Amazon etc). It makes new music increasingly more accessible – not only to the fans, but also to the artists themselves.

You don’t have to spend a tonne of cash on getting physical media recorded and find distributors for it – in the click of a mouse, your music can be out there on the Interwebs for all to enjoy!

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

Gary spends a lot of his life in the Gym (when they’re open!), which is why he’s so bloody massive! Jim’s an awesome photographer so he spends a lot of time behind the lens, while Matt & Hayden will rarely be seen without a guitar in their hands! (Although Hayden did confess to completing PornHub during the first UK Lockdown…)

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

Obviously, live music probably isn’t going to make much of a comeback any time soon – we’d probably expect the end of the year at the earliest!

When things do get going, we’re working with some guys to get gigs booked when we can and I think we’re slated to play a couple of minor festivals in the summer – hopefully that can all get going!

While we’re in shutdown, we’ve been working on getting some of our tunes recorded and out for people to hear – ‘Bad Dreams & Battering Rams’ was released back in November, which was quickly followed in December by ‘Your Decision’.

We will also be putting our next tune out on 23rd January 2021 – ‘The Life Of Gary’ tells a bit about the lifestyle of our very own Gary!
