Band Interview: In Dying Eyes

Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with wide-ranging metal band, In Dying Eyes.

1. How did you get started as a band?

I (Matt) joined a band in high school with my friends Jake and Zach. After a few name changes we chose the name In Dying Eyes. Throughout the history of the band, it has always been a group of friends playing music!

2. How would you describe your sound?

We don’t fit into any particular sub-genre of metal due to the diversity of sounds in our songs we have been described as melodic metal with hints of punk. We strive to write the music that we would want to hear and not what would fit into the bubble of a sub-genre.

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

There are A LOT but here are a few in no particular order: Bring Me The Horizon, Avenged Sevenfold, Dance Gavin Dance, Beartooth, Asking Alexandria, Motionless in White, Frank Ocean, Pierce The Veil, The Amity Affliction, Knocked Loose, Architects, Wage War, BlessTheFall & Sleeping With Sirens.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

I believe that the rise of music streaming along with YouTube has helped our music reach people we would never have been able to reach previously. I believe music can change lives and I want everyone to have access to all kinds of music.

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

Chris loves to rock climb, skateboard and compete in UMG gaming tournaments!
Josh loves to compete in gaming tournaments and play card games like magic!
Dylan loves to play games, work on his car and go to car meets!
Matt loves to collect coins, work on sound engineering and go camping!

6. Tell us about your new video.

Pain has a lot of meaning to us because it talks about the effects of a toxic relationship long after it has ended. The song illustrates the whirlwind of emotions one would feel after being in such a relationship for so long. The song was written at a dark place in Matt’s life and really allowed him to not only move on but let go of a toxic relationship! This song is dedicated to those stuck in a loop of trying to care for those who will not return the favor.
